Sacrament of confirmation is one of the sacrament of initiation in Catholic Church, It is the completion of Baptismal grace, make us a witness of Christ and to be strong in spreading the good news of Christ all over the world. Sacrament of Confirmation sometimes called the Sacrament of Christian Maturity.

When the Apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they may receive the Holy Spirit, for they had only been Baptized, then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. (Acts 8:14-17).

The Confirmed received the seal and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. On the day of Chrism Mass, which is Holy Thursday (TRIDIUM), The Bishop of each Diocese Consecrates the oil of Chrism which is used in Sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation unites us more deeply to Christ, increases the gift of Holy Spirit in us, it renders our bond with the Church more perfect and gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the Faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to Confess the name of Christ boldly and never be ashamed of  Christ.

Any Catholic member who have received the Sacrament of Baptism can receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, One must be in a State of Grace and receive the Sacrament of Penance to be cleansed for the gift of Holy Spirit in order to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, This Sacrament makes one a full member of the Catholic Church and he/she is expected to be a true witness of Christ.

The person to Administer the Sacrament of Confirmation of the Bishop, but if needs arises, the Bishop may grant the faculty of administering Confirmation to Priests, Bishop’s at the successors of the Apostles, they have received the fullness of the Sacrament of Holy Orders, but if a Christian is in danger of death, any priest can Administer Confirmation to the person, just the way a lay person can Baptize someone in danger of death if Priest is not around. Indeed, the Church desires that none of her children should depart this world without having been perfected by the Holy Spirit.

The Bishop extends his hand on the Confirmands and invokes the outpouring of the Spirit by saying, “All powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, by water and the Holy Spirit you freed your sons and daughters from sin and gave them new life. Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their helper and guide. Give them the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of right judgement and courage, the Spirit of knowledge and reverence. Fill them with the Spirit of wonder and awe in your presence”. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

The essential rite of Confirmation is anointing the forehead of the Baptized with Sacred Chrism by saying, ” Accipe Signaculum Doni Spiritus Sanction” which means : Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. ( I AM PROUD OF BEING A CATHOLIC).
